Education Reform

Let me be clear about one thing – my top priority in education is raising academic achievement. Period. There are plenty of politicians in Columbia who claim to be “for the children,” but how many of them back that claim up by focusing on the real needs that exist in the classroom?

I am fighting hard for Beaufort’s fair share of public school funding and have begun a long-overdue discussion on impact fees for public school infrastructure, but I also believe that we cannot rely exclusively on the public system to produce all of the answers. That’s why as Gov. Mark Sanford’s chief-of-staff I led the fight for charter school reform, and it’s why I am a strong advocate of expanded parental choice across the board.
