More fun debating on the floor of the South Carolina Senate. This time the issue is on-the-record voting. Incredibly, less than 15% of the votes in the Senate were recorded; the rest were “voice votes,” which left the public wondering how their senator voted. After a battle we got the on-the-record bill passed, and now all votes on bills are recorded.

Senators Davis and McConnell discuss the Separation of Powers

Here is a short clip of my recent debate with Sen. McConnell on the floor of the South Carolina Senate on the need to separate government powers into the appropriate branches. Unlike other states, South Carolina has a five-member commission that exercises a substantial portion of the state’s legislative and executive functions. The Senate passed a bill that would abolish that commission, but we still have a ways to go before achieving a true separation of powers.
